ABU DHABI (Reuters) – Hong Kong racer Adderley Fong will test with Sauber in Abu Dhabi next week after Formula One’s season-ending race at the Yas Marina circuit, the Swiss-based team said on Friday. Fong will aim to complete 300 kilometres to qualify for the extension of his super licence, the team said in a statement. The 25-year-old, whose ambition is to become China’s first Formula One racing driver, tested for Sauber in Valencia and Abu Dhabi last year but has been a development driver for Mercedes-powered Lotus this season. Lotus’s future remains uncertain, with that financially-struggling team hoping to be taken over by former owners Renault. (Reporting by Alan Baldwin, editing by Patrick Johnston)

Hamilton currently holds 6 World Championships and stands on the cusp of equalling Michael Schumacher's record at the end of the season.

Hamilton and Mercedes are the defending Champions with the pair's dominance unlikely to end anytime soon.

For a long time, Bernie Ecclestone was the F1 supremo, having founded the Formula One Group. He?spent 40 years as chief executive of the company after gaining control of the commercial rights.

But in 2017, he stepped down and ownership was handed to Liberty Media who have been taking care of F1 since then. To herald their control, they even changed the F1 logo.

Chase Carey was the first F1 CEO in the 'liberty era' of F1 and will be stepping down at the end of the year. Former Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali will succeed the American in 2021.

Sauber is another team that has a lot of history in Formula One. Peter Sauber began to work on sports cars back in the 1970s but only entered Formula One from 1993 onwards.

They raced in other motorsport series before dabbling into Formula One. Now, in 2019, according to the latest Sauber F1 news, they will be fielding Antonio Giovinazzi and the returning Kimi Raikkonen.

<strong>On-track Achievements</strong>

Like most new teams, they had a rocky start, with more retirements than finishes. But then, in 1995, German driver Heinz-Harald Frentzen scored a maiden podium in Italy.

Then, in 1996 and 1997, Johnny Herbert picked up a podium in each year, at Monaco and Hungary respectively. Jean Alesi continued the trend for Sauber F1 in 1998 at the Belgian Grand Prix.

Then, it was Nick Heidfeld in Brazil 2001, as he and rookie teammate Kimi Raikkonen helped the team finish 4th in the championship.
