“I Did It the Right Way” – Felix Auger-Aliassime on His Rise

Felix Auger-Aliassime is a young man rushing to the very top of the sport. The 19-year-old already ranks as World No. 20 and this is surely just the beginning of his rise. Apart from being a young, talented player, Felix is also quite a level-headed human being. He recently had a chat with Eurosport, where he discussed his journey so far.

Felix has already garnered attention from his peers as well as the tennis fans with his meteoric rise through the ranks. Sitting at World No. 20, Felix is practically a shoo-in for the Next Gen ATP Finals. That is if they do go ahead this year given the current uncertainty.

In fact, it wouldn’t be all too surprising if the Canadian is challenging for the ATP World Tour Finals in the next couple of seasons. Of course, the jump from Top-20 to Top-10 is a big one. There is a significant step up in terms of quality in the Top-10, and it takes consistency to stay up there.

In a chat with Eurosport, Felix Auger-Aliassime opened up on his rapid rise in the sport.

“No, it’s nothing new. I’m taking it all in my stride. But that’s how it has to be now. Even if everything happened quickly, I did it the right way, without forcing anything, while trying to remain calm. What made me jump up the rankings quickly was that I took each step as it came.”

Wise words from a man so young. He certainly has the personality and the temperament to, not just make it to the very top of the sport, but to stay there for many years to come.

Talent everyone has to a certain degree. Yes, it has to be honed and manifested into a solid technique, but without the right temperament, you are just another player.

For instance, Alexander Zverev is a man full of talent, and yet often it is his temperament and attitude that lets him down. He seems to have realized it himself now and is already working at improving that side of his game.

Hopefully, we will get to watch many epic battles between the likes of him and Felix Auger-Aliassime in the coming years.
