The COVID-19 virus imposed hefty restrictions throughout the world. The world of tennis too was shut off for a few months before returning to action. Tennis is returning to the highest order with the commencement of the US Open scheduled on August 31. British tennis professional Andy Murray was granted a wild card entry following the withdrawal of some players. The 2012 US Open Champion, however, felt “a little bit sad” due to the absence of the audience.

“Am looking forward to competing, but I also like, I said earlier, I was walking through the grounds after my practice yesterday, and I felt a little bit sad as well because this place is usually totally buzzing like this time of the year. Fans create the atmosphere and make the tournament what they are”, Murray stated.

The Billie Jean King National Tennis Center has always been flooded with the audience. Specifically, during the US Grand Slam, the venue becomes a center of attraction. However, with the COVID-19 situation yet to normalize, visitors are strictly prohibited in the stadium or in its periphery. Like everybody else, Andy Murray misses the eccentric audience of the Flushing Meadows.

Murray admits it feels great to be back here competing. Taking an opportunity to applaud the USTA for the arrangements they have done to keep the players safe. However, Murray points out that even after all this the one thing which is heartbreaking is not to have the fans watch the matches.

The former British number 1 Andy Murray struggled with his form due to his injuries. Once a heavyweight candidate for the Slams, his injuries sidelined him for a long time and lowered his lethality. However, his immense experience and skill remain a perfect blend to overcome any opponent.

Murray currently is busy with the Western and Southern Open. Defeating Frances Tiafoe in the round of 64, he set up a clash with Alexander Zverev in the round of 32. Before going for the US Open, the Western and Southern Open is acting as a preparatory tournament. Murray would be analyzing his performance minutely before commencing for the Grand Slams.
