“I Need to Financially Make Money” – CoCo Vandeweghe on Playing US Open 2020

After months of no tennis, we are starting to see many exhibition events being played. The World TeamTennis is one of those events and CoCo Vandeweghe is excited to play this event again and she is going to play for the San Diego Aviators.
While it is great that exhibitions are being played, people will want to see professional tennis. And they will see it soon as the WTA Tour is returning in August.
However, there are many players who are worried about playing some events especially the US Open. This is due to the restrictions at the event and also the rising COVID-19 cases in the United States. This is why CoCo was asked whether she would play the US Open.

CoCo Vandeweghe On Playing The US Open
In a recent talk with Fox5 San Diego, CoCo Vandeweghe was asked whether she would consider skipping the US Open. She replied by saying, “I need to financially make some money and go play. I don’t think I have quite the say-so of being able to say, ‘Nope.’”

Financial reasons were probably one of the main reasons why the governing bodies decided to resume the tennis season. Many players especially the lower-ranked ones rely on prize money for their income and hence, they needed the tennis season to resume as soon as possible.

The WTA Tour will be returning with the Palermo Ladies Open followed by 2 more events in the week of August 10th. Players will be looking forward to these events in order to prepare themselves for the rest of the Tour which is going to be a very taxing one.

Even though some players have threatened to skip the US Open, everyone is going to hoping that they won’t. And they will also be hoping that the 2020 US Open will be a grand success despite the pandemic.
