DOES FEDERER THINK OF RETIREMENT?

Roger Federer recently revealed that he wants to keep playing forever. “In a way, I want it to be eternal. I wanna play tennis forever. I feel like I wanna try my best as long as I can. It will be sad when it will be over, but at least I know  I did everything I could to stay out there as long as possible”.

Federer’s 2019 season is characteristic of the inconsistency that has become associated with him in the recent past. You never know which Federer will show up at a tournament.

Federer started 2019 with an upset loss to Stefanos Tsitsipas in the third round of Australian Open. Federer lost the match in straight sets. However, he redeemed himself in the Dubai Tennis Championships by defeating Tsitsipas in straight sets and claiming the trophy.

Federer reached the finals of Indian Wells Masters and won the Miami Open. However, he again missed out on a grand slam trophy when he was annihilated by Rafael Nadal in the semi-finals of the French Open.

The grass-court season was relatively better for Federer as he clinched the Halle Open and narrowly lost out to Djokovic in the longest Wimbledon finals ever.

The North American hard court season was also a mixed bag for the Swiss maestro. He was shocked by a straight-set loss to Andrey Rublev in the finals of the Cincinnati Masters. A grand slam title alluded him again as Grigor Dimitrov beat him in a five-setter in the US Open quarter-finals.

The last tournament of his 2019 season was the ATP finals. Federer was drawn in the Bjorn Borg group with Djokovic, Thiem and Berrettini. He lost to Thiem in straight sets in the first match but defeated Berrettini in the second. Finally, he lost to Tsitsipas in straight sets to officially end his season.
