Novak Djokovic has already achieved enough to go down as one of the greatest tennis stars of all time. However, there is still one regret that eats at the heart of the Serbian great.

For all his achievements, Novak Djokovic has never won an Olympic medal. In fact, his best Olympic performance till date is a solitary bronze in Beijing. However, one of his biggest regrets is still the loss at the London Olympics of 2012.

Novak was looking in red hot form and was one of the best performers in the world at that time. However, Andy Murray emerged out of the shadows to finally prove his potential at the big stage. The Britisher would win the gold medal at his home turf.

What did Novak Djokovic say about the disheartening loss of 2012?

Novak Djokovic was recently live on Instagram with his arch-nemesis Andy Murray. He recalled how the loss was crushing but why he stills considers it one of his best performances.

“I think I felt like I played well although you beat me in Olympic games in London on grass in the semis. 7-5,7-5, I think? I still feel like we both played really well and the quality of the match was pretty good. You were just better in the decisive moments in both sets, but I felt like in terms of the quality of tennis that was actually one of the matches that I felt like, of course when I played I was devastated when I lost coz it was Olympic games and everything.”

“But I was happy with the way I played, because I played well throughout the tournament. And then you ended up winning the gold medal. The whole tournament you played fantastically, it was probably one of the best matches you played against Roger in the finals.”

Murray agreed that his finals against Roger Federer was one of his best matches. However, he also believed at the time that the match wasn’t that good. It was only after he heard the review that he realized that it actually meant a lot to people.
