The England cricket team are in a heap of trouble in terms of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 campaign. England Captain Eoin Morgan seemingly injured himself during the team’s World Cup match against West Indies.

Things got a lot worse when teammate, Jason Roy also limped off injured. In the 40th over, Morgan fell victim to an unknown injury when running towards the non-striker’s end.

As Eoin Morgan left the field, he struggled to even climb the pavilion stairs. The scene was so dire for England that, all-rounder Ben Stokes placed his hands on his head in disappointment.

Former England captain turned commentator, Alastair Cook, said: “Eoin Morgan’s injury looked worse than Jason Roy’s. Roy was able to walk off and up the stairs and Morgan was really struggling. He’s not one to moan either.”

Eoin Morgan was sidelined during the first innings, casting a cloud of doubt over his participation in the second innings. This could have meant that Chris Woakes will bat at number five, though England seems to have stuck to their original plan.

Meanwhile, Liam Plunkett was an option to bat as high as number six. Both injuries occurred when England were fielding and managed to restrict West Indies to 212 all out.

The good news for England is that Joe Root and Chris Woakes are steadying the ship, in spite of the likely absence of Eoin Morgan. Unfortunately, the double injury plight does put England in a bit of a pickle.

According to ESPNCricInfo, Eoin Morgan suffered from back spasms, which led to him trudging away in agony. Unfortunately for England, having a runner is out of question since they were outlawed in 2011.

Further adding to their woes is the absence of first-choice reserve opener, Alex Hales. However, Hales brought his issues on himself after the furore following the news that he had failed a drugs test.
