ICC Cricket World Cup 2019: Shikhar Dhawan Ruled Out For 3 Weeks Due to Thumb Injury

Indian opener, Shikhar Dhawan has been ruled out of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 for at least 3 weeks due to a thumb injury. Shikhar Dhawan was hit on his thumb during the match against Australia at the Oval on Sunday. He will miss the matches against New Zealand, Pakistan, and Afghanistan until now.

The left-handed batsman underwent a precautionary scan on his hand to get the full details of the injury on Monday.

Shikhar Dhawan scored a brilliant century in India’s second match at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 against Australia after sustaining the injury in the middle of his innings. He was hit on his left thumb by a bouncer delivery from Nathan-Coulter Nile. He did not come out to the field in the second innings and was replaced by Ravindra Jadeja in the field. Shikhar Dhawan was selected as the man of the match for his 117 runs knock in 109 balls as India defeated Australia by 36 runs.

He said in the post-match interview, “We are happy with the result as it was a great team effort. It’s a great sign for our team and I’m happy with this man of the match award. Very happy with the performance overall. We are a great fielding side, we took great catches. We have a good bowling side, great spinners as well.”

Shikhar Dhawan didn’t talk about his injury in the interview as he continued, “We work really hard in the nets, our process is very strong that’s why the results are going our way. We ticked all the boxes today and we knew they are a great side and the match will go down to the wire. We need to continue ticking the boxes in upcoming matches. The fans are having a great time and they’ll be happy with this win.”

India is scheduled to face New Zealand on Thursday in their third ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 match at the Trent Bridge, Nottingham.
