Conor McGregor did something really spectacular when he forced Mayweather to come out of retirement, for a cross-promotion sporting event between MMA and boxing champion. Floyd Mayweather Jr. faced then lightweight champion Conor McGregor in a Money Fight on Aug. 26, 2017. A lot has changed since then. However, Mayweather has teased a return to the sport. With McGregor back inside the octagon, UFC could be looking at a potential rematch between both the global superstars.

In a recent exclusive with ESPN journalist Ariel Helwani, McGregor shared the idea of a rematch with the undefeated boxing champion, Floyd Mayweather Jr.

“I’d like to rematch Floyd. I think we should rematch Floyd. I mean, he’s flirting with it, and they want all this. And he can go and pick someone else. It’s not gonna be the same. It’s not. I’ve done phenomenal in that bout.

He adds,

“I know I’d beat Floyd, I’d beat Floyd if we rematch, when we rematch. He’s not gonna do a mixed martial arts bout like he said. It was supposed to be me boxing, and then we’ll do a mixed martial arts bout. That was what was said. And it came out of his mouth as well, and it was not written, but it was a verbal agreement. And obviously, that’s not gonna happen. I’m not going to push him on that, either. But I would like to box him. I think that would be a good rematch.

“You never know (if it could happen this year).”

Leonard Ellerbe, CEO of Mayweather Promotions, sent a positive response to McGregor’s call out of Mayweather. If that’s true, then what Conor McGregor said could well be true. Conor and Mayweather might face each other yet again.

However, McGregor is yet to prove his position in UFC again, to come back to the height he once accomplished. McGregor is also eying a rematch with Khabib Nurmagomedov in the near future. If everything falls perfectly for Conor. And he can beat Khabib for the lightweight championship, only then a match with Mayweather will make the same impact.

That’s just an opinion. Do let me know what you think about the rematch in the comments section below.
