French Open champ Iga Swiatek won her maiden hardcourt title as she defeated Belinda Bencic in the finals of WTA Adelaide International 2021. This proved quite handy for her, as she will now make her top 15 debut in the WTA rankings when it gets updated on Monday.
Adelaide International is a WTA 500 tournament thus Swiatek will earn a whole 470 points from the tournament. Since the WTA rankings take into account the results of the 16 best tournaments, the 470 points will replace one point Swiatek earned somewhere else. Thus, effectively, she earns 469 points.
Now Swiatek has 3014 points and following the coming Monday update, her points total will rise to 3483 points. This will push her to 15th, above the likes of Garbine Muguruza, Elise Mertens, etc. She was 18th after the Australian Open 2021.
