“I’m 100% in Favor” – John Isner Voices Support for US Open Amid Coronavirus Pandemic

In a major boost to USTA, American No.1 John Isner applauded the organizers after it was announced that the US Open will take place this year as scheduled.
The USTA has had to overcome several hurdles to make the decision, as they received a lot of backlash from the players for the rules surrounding quarantine and entourage etc. Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios even went on to call them ‘selfish’ for wanting to organize the tournament as various other issues needed attention first.
Christopher Clarey, an American sportswriter had communicated with Isner regarding the US Open and tweeted Isner’s response.

“I’m 100 % in favor of the USTA’s decision. I think it’s important for the sport to get back & this is a good opportunity to get tennis back in the mainstream”, Isner said to Clarey.

Isner also tweeted after New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that US Open will be taking place between 31st August and 13th September although without fans. And so the US Open will be taking place behind closed doors.
“Well done USTA for being so forward-thinking in getting this done. A great achievement. Players and fans alike are thrilled with this development. Time to get back on the courts.” He tweeted.

Yesterday 23 time Grand slam winner Serena Williams also announced that she will be participating in this year’s US Open. She said that she was ‘excited’ to play even though it will be ‘crazy’ without fans.
But World No.1 Novak Djokovic hasn’t announced whether or not he will participate in the US Open. Same with the defending champion, Rafael Nadal. He hasn’t said yes to participation. Both are holding their decision to see how the situation in the US plans out.

John Isner is one of the best servers in history. He has the second-highest number of career aces in history. He also featured in the longest tennis match ever against Nicholas Mahut in 2010 which lasted for over 11 hours.
Currently, Isner ranks at 21. His 2020 hasn’t gone that well, he was hurt in the 3rd round of the Australian Open against Stan Wawrinka so he had to retire. As the tennis resumes he would love to get back on track and take on some of the big guns.
