India failed to start their ODI campaign against Australia with a win. They failed to live up to the expectations as Australia registered a convincing win by 10 wickets and fans started chanting their favourite player’s name at Wankhede –  MS Dhoni. The former India captain hasn’t played a single match ever since India’s exit from the ICC World Cup 2019 semifinal.

His absence raised many questions including his retirement. However, no confirmation has come yet on this matter. As far as the 1st ODI is concerned, India were bowled out within 255. While Rohit Sharma fell very cheaply, it was Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul who stitched a century partnership.

However, India lost wickets very quickly in the middle and started struggling. Seeing this, many fans think if MS Dhoni was there, the situation would have been different. In fact, Dhoni’s calibre is known to all. He has rescued the team many times from a critical situation.

Moreover, not only this but the crowd chanted Dhoni’s name also when KL Rahul missed an easy opportunity. Australia openers David Warner and Aaron Finch chased down the total with ease with 37.4 overs where both of them smashed centuries.

On the other hand, Shikhar Dhawan said that the loss of four quick wickets was the reason behind India’s loss. He scored 74 off 91 balls.

“We handled those first 10-15 overs very nicely. As I said that where we lost four wickets in a go, that is where the game changed for us, then we were behind the game and then we were trying to cover it, so that is where we went wrong. KL (Rahul) got out. That time we planned to accelerate and those four wickets we lost, that’s where we lost the momentum. We were targeting 300 runs but we ended up scoring less runs. In bowling, we could not take early wickets. They outplayed us,” shared Dhawan.
