India’s left-handed opener Shikhar Dhawan has scored a half-century in the third Twenty20 International against Sri Lanka at Pune. With his splendid knock, he has nearly sealed his place in the T20 World Cup squad in the openers slot alongside Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul. He has scored 52 off 36 with seven boundaries and a six.

Shikhar Dhawan on his knock

“I am very happy with the way me and Rahul started the innings today. We both gave a good start to the team. I was playing good even in the last match when I scored 30 odd runs. I value those runs too. Once you are set, you have to make the most of it,” Dhawan said in the mid-innings break.

“The competition is very healthy among the three openers. We three are very good friends so that makes it beautiful. We lost a lot of wickets in a bunch but after that we came back well and scored 200,” Dhawan has expressed.

As the ICC T20 World Cup is around the corner, the team management will soon select the team. It has now become difficult to choose between three in-form openers in the shortest format of the game. As far as the third T20I is concerned, India have registered a convincing win by 78 runs where they restricted Sri Lankan within 123 runs in 15.5 overs.

With this win, they have won the series by 2-0 in the three-match T20I series where the first one was washed out in Guwahati. India won the second match with ease in Indore as well. Apart from Dhawan, Rahul also smashed a fifty in the game.
