IND vs WI 2019: Virat Kohli Creates a Bunch of Records with His Career-best 94* in the 1st T20I

India registered a convincing win over West Indies in the 1st T20I. Captain Virat Kohli scored a scintillating knock of unbeaten 94 off 50 balls and made the winning foundation for the team.

Chasing 208 to win, Kohli reached to his first 25 runs at run-a-ball strike rate. However, later, he changed the gear and started hitting regular boundaries. His unbeaten 94 comprised of six fours and as many sixes. His efforts helped India chase down the target with ease and 8 balls remaining.

FIVE – Virat Kohli was unbeaten in five successful T20I chases as a captain of India. This is the joint-second most unbeaten knocks by any captain in successful T20I chases. Former India captain MS Dhoni remained unbeaten on 12 times when leading India. George Bailey and Eoin Morgan were also unbeaten five times.

SEVEN – Virat Kohli scored fifty-plus in T20I cricket 7 times as captain, the joint-second most by any player. Faf du Plessis has eight 50+ scores as a captain while Aaron Finch and Kane Williamson also have seven 50+ scores in the shortest format of the game as captain. Kohli, however, has finished six fifties in T20I while chasing as a captain. He has scored two fifties more than any other player.

TWELVE – Virat Kohli has received the player of the match award 12 times in the T20Is; the joint-most for any player in this format. Mohammad Nabi is the other player in T20Is who also received the award 12 times.

FOURTEEN – While chasing, India won all the 14 T20I matches where Kohli remained unbeaten. Only two players have the unbeaten record more than Kohli in successful T20I chases – Shoaib Malik (16) and MS Dhoni (15).

TWENTY-THREE – Kohli has smashed 23 fifties in his T20I career so far; the most scores in excess of 50 runs in the history of T20I. With this, he surpassed Rohit Sharma’s record of 22 50+ scores which includes four centuries.

TWENTY-SEVEN – He has received the player of the match awards 27 times in his Twenty20 career till date – 12 in IPL, 12 in T20Is and 3 in CLT20. This is the joint-most player of the match awards for an Indian in the shortest format alongside his teammate Rohit Sharma who also won the award 27 times – 17 in IPL, 9 in T20Is and 1 in CLT20.

NINETY-FOUR – Kohli’s 94* is now the 3rd highest individual score by a captain in a T20I game while chasing. Paras Khadka scored 106* during Singapore T20I Tri-series against Singapore earlier in September. Two weeks before Khadka’s knock, Pieter Seelaar also scored an unbeaten 96 in an unsuccessful chase against Scotland in Ireland Tri-series as well.
