Indian contingent shines at the International Wushu Championships

The International Wushu Championships was held in Yerevan, Armenia from 21 to 25 of April. The Indian team secured 16 medals including five gold, five silver and six bronze in the championships.

Wushu is a derived traditional Chinese martial arts that developed during the later half of the 20 Century. It has yet not been recognised as an Olympic sport but has an increasing number of practitioners in India. This was the 15 edition of the International Wushu Championships with 14 participating nations including India.

The Indian team was coached By Kuldeep Handoo, Chief National Coach of India. The team was sent by the Wushu Association of India in which 19 players from different parts of the Country participated.

Medalists Ajaz Hassan (gold), Sunil Dev Singh (gold) Pankaj Raina (silver), Tsering Angmo (silver) and Jabeena Akhter (bronze) from the state of Jammu and Kashmir were warmly welcomed and felicitated by the Wushu Association of J and K.

Keeping in view the forthcoming 18th Asian Games-2018, the players appealed to the Chief Minister and Sports Minister to provide proper Wushu equipments and infrastructure to Wushu Sports.
