Indian Wells 2019: Felix Auger-Aliassime Edges Past Stefanos Tsitsipas in The Second Round

As the round-of-64 kicks off in the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, the 18-year-old Felix Auger-Aliassime ingresses into the second week of the desert tournament. The Canadian, Felix Auger-Aliassime received his first ever top ten victories in his career. He defeated the Greek lad, Stefanos Tsitsipas in the round-of-64 of the Indian Wells 2019. The young boy from Montreal, Auger-Aliassime receives his first ticket to the third round of the Masters 1000 event. The Canadian lad steamrolled over the World Number ten, Tsitsipas 6-4, 6-2 in 77 minutes of time.

Felix Auger-Aliassime has now won eight of his last ten matches and he gathered the attention of the tennis world when he reached the Rio Open final last month, where he lost to the Serbian, Laslo Djere (who is still in Felix’s draw at the Indian Wells 2019).

The World Number 58, Felix Auger-Aliassime grabbed the first break of serve against this year’s Australian Open semi-finalist, Tsitsipas in the third game of the first set which aided him to seize the opening set. Besides that, the youngest tennis player of the ATP top 100, Felix Auger-Aliassime was invincible in the second set and saved seven break points against the greek lad. Tsitsipas happen to lose all his challenges in the middle of the second set. With the Canadian’s win, tennis has once again witnessed the birth of the new generation of the sport.

The massive forehands and accurate serves fired from the Canadian’s racquet made it strenuous for the Dubai Open finalist, Tsitsipas to seal a spot in the round-of-32 of the BNP Paribas Open. Up next, the Felix Auger-Aliassime will face the victor of the match between Roberto Bautista-Agut and Yoshihito Nishioka.

On the other ATP courts, World Number 217, Marcos Girons from the United States defeated the Australian, Alex de Minaur 1-6, 6-4, 6-2. With that win, the Californian native is the lowest-ranked player to reach the round three of the desert tournament since the year 2011.
