Injury woes: McCullum out of IPL 10

The unswerving Gujarat Lions opener for this season, Brendon McCullum has been declared injured and unfit for the rest of the IPL season. He had acquired the hamstring injury playing against the Delhi Daredevils side in the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium in Delhi.

With their loss against the Delhi team, the Gujarat Lions now have been relegated from the playoffs. They have now accumulated 8 losses out of 11 played. They have not been able to live up to their expectations this season after a series of disappointing performances.

The Lions have been affected by many injuries this season. Their season started with the news of Dwayne Bravo pulling out of the tournament. The Australian pacer Andrew Tye also pulled out with injury midseason. Nathu Singh suffered from back spasms after their match against the Kings XI Punjab. McCullum has to undergo 3-4 weeks of rehabilitation with immediate effect in order to prevent any further damage in the hamstring. Aaron Finch, one of his teammates in the GL side, sent him best wishes on Twitter.

McCullum has failed to show his grating batting style against the bowlers. He has scored 319 runs so far from 11 matches with the highest score of 72. The GL team will now face great difficulties after the loss of the former Kiwi captain. They are now left with only 4 overseas players in their team: Australian Aaron Finch and James Faulkner, West Indian Dwayne Smith and UAE’s Chirag Suri.

The Suresh Raina-led side has 3 matches remaining in the league to fight for their pride. They have one match left against the KXIP, DD, and SRH respectively and can play a significant role in deciding the third and fourth team which makes it way to the playoffs. Finding an opener to replace McCullum will be no easy task for Raina.
