In one of the most anticipated title fight of the year, Colby Covington takes on Kamaru Usman in the main event of UFC 245. The welterweight division is packed with some great fighters such as Jorge Masvidal, Tyron Woodley, Nate Diaz, Stephen Thompson, and the list goes on. However, both Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington have managed to look dominant even in a division full of elite fighters.

Covington is on a 7 fight win streak in UFC while Usman is on a 10 fight win streak. Covington is coming off a dominant win over former champion, Robbie Lawler while Usman out classed Tyron Woodley in his last fight. There is a ton of similarity between these two fighters when you consider their fighting style and their record.
Usman’s only loss was to Jose Caceres who has lost to Covington. Covington’s only loss was to Warlley Alves who has lost to Usman. If that is not compelling enough for the fans to tune in and watch these two fighters fight then the rivalry between them certainly does the work.

Fans are expecting a grappling and wrestling extravaganza when Covington takes on Usman. However, that might not be the case. Recently we saw Ben Askren trading strikes with Demain Maia for a meaningful period when they fought each other at UFC Singapore. That might be a case when Usman takes on Covington. Both fighters are two of the best wrestlers in the division, however, their striking game is underrated, to say the least.

Colby Covington overwhelmed Robbie Lawler to the point that Lawler could not even create an opportunity to land his strikes. Covington completely shut down one of the most feared fighters in UFC, Robbie Lawler. Although Covington used his wrestling very effectively against Lawler, he did a phenomenal job with his striking too landing close to 600 strikes in 5 rounds. Usman did something similar when he fought Tyron Woodley.
