The IPL 2019 was one of the most entertaining seasons in the history of IPL. The 12th edition of IPL will not be easily forgotten by the cricket pundits and fans.

While there were many controversies that took the center stage at the IPL 2019. But there were many cherishable moments in the course of 2 months. The 2019 IPL witnessed some controversies but along with it, the season also showcased some top-class batting, splendid bowling, marvelous fielding, and some superlative finishes.

From MS Dhoni’s gigantic six to Lasith Malinga’s last over of in the finals, the fans noticed everything in this season of the Indian Premier League. The season showcased 32 last over finishes, which makes it as one of the most thrilling editions of the IPL. Let’s take a look at some memorable moments of the IPL 2019.

1. MS Dhoni mountainous six

CSK was up against RCB at the Chinnaswamy stadium. It was one of the tensed matches in the IPL 2019. CSK required 70 off 30 balls when the skipper MS Dhoni came into the crease. Dhoni took the charge for his team.

In the last over, Umesh Yadav was defending 26 runs against Dhoni. After dispatching the first ball to the boundary, Dhoni smashed a monsters six out of the park. This came out to be the longest six in the IPL 2019 with 111m six. Dhoni smashed two more sixes in the over but unfortunately couldn’t take his team on the winning side as CSK lost the match by 1 run.

2. Alzarri Joseph spectacular 6/12 spell

Mumbai Indians bowler, Alzarri Joseph claimed 6 wickets for just 12 runs, the best ever spell in the history of IPL. Joseph made a dream debut in the IPL 2019 against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

David Warner was his first prey after which he went on to break Sohail Tanvir record of 6/14 in the IPL. In a low scoring match, MI set a target of 137 for SRH but with the help Joseph incredible spell, SRH was bowled out for 96. Alzarri took the wicket of David Warner, Vijay Shankar, Deepak Hooda, Rashid Khan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Siddharth Kaul.

3. Sam Curran hat-trick

Kings XI Punjab Bowler, Sam Curran claimed the first hat-trick of the IPL 2019. Curran accomplished the hat trick against Shreyas Iyer-led Delhi Capitals in Mohali.

Sam Curran finished with 4/11 figures helping his team to win a crucial match against DC. He took the wickets of Harshal Patel, Kagiso Rabada and Sandeep Lamichhane to achieve the feat. This was the 18th hat-trick in the history of IPL.

4. Andre Russell fireworks against RCB

Andre Russell turned the tables in RCB when KKR chased the gigantic target if 206 runs in just 19.1 overs.

KKR was struggling as the scoreboard read 153/5 in 17 overs. It looked impossible for Kolkata to make 54 runs in 18 balls. But it was Andre Russell who took on the charge for his team. He smashed 48 runs in 13 balls taking his team to the finishing line with 5 balls remaining. Russell smashed seven sixes and one four in his 13 ball knock.

5. Kagiso Rabada magic in the first super-over of IPL 2019

Kagiso Rabada defended the lowest total in a super over in the history of IPL. DC was facing a tough task of facing the powerful Andre Russell in the super over with a target of only 10 runs.

But it was Kagiso Rabada who helped his team win a crucial match against KKR. The South African fast bowler restricted KKR to 7 for 1 wicket. Rabada bowled all the six balls yorker. Russell smashed the first ball to the boundary but Rabada was on target in the second ball as he took out the middle stump of Andre Russell’s wicket. He was on spot on every delivery as DC won the match by 3 runs.

6. AB de Villiers one-handed six

AB de Villiers was at his best against Kings XI Punjab at the Chinnaswamy stadium. RCB was on a roll as the franchise won the third consecutive match with the help of ABD.

AB de Villiers smashed 82 runs in just 44 balls. The highlight of the match was the no-look massive six by ‘Mr. 360’. The incident happened in the 19th over as Mohammed Shami bowled a no-ball on the chest of ABD. In order to protect himself, ABD ducked yet swinging his bat. The bat connected the ball and surprisingly, the ball went out of the park. The shot was one of the best shots of the IPL 2019.

7. Keiron Pollard blinder catch

Keiron Pollard was the winner of the “Vivo Perfect Catch Award” for his spectacular catch at the Wankhede Stadium against CSK.

Suresh Raina was looking good as he hit two fours and one six. It looked like he would command the CSK innings. Raina was targeting the boundaries but Pollard who was standing at the deep point took a blinder of a catch. Pollard was standing almost 10 meters away from the boundary as Raina smashed the ball in the air towards the stands. But Pollards with a full stretch jump took a one-handed spectacular catch. He also managed to balance his body as he fell down and didn’t touch the ropes.

8. Shreyas Gopal hat-trick

Shreyas Gopal claimed the second hat-trick of the IPL 2019 against a top batting side of RCB. The fixture between RR and RCB was hit by rains as the match was reduced to a five-over match.

Shreyas Gopal took three of the best batsmen of RCB. He got the wickets of skipper Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, and Marcon Stoinis to get his maiden IPL hat-trick. This was the 19th hat-trick in the Indian Premier League.

9. David Warner and Johnny Bairstow Century

SRH won a convincing 118-run victory over RCB. David Warner and Johnny Bairstow, each scored a century to break many records.

Warner and Bairstow broke the record of highest opening partnership od 184 runs between Gautam Gambhir and Chris Lynn for KKR. The two made 185 runs in just 98 balls for the opening wicket. This was only the second match in the history of IPL when two players from one team scored a century. Previously Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers scored a century against Gujarat Lions in IPL 2016.

10. Colin Ingram combined catch with Axar Patel

Ingram pulled off a spectacular catch of Chris Gayle at the boundary combining with Axar Patel. Delhi Capitals were up against Kings XI Punjab when Chris Gayle was batting against the Sandeep Lamichhane.

Chris Gayle smashed the first ball into the stands. He bowled shorter length googly in the second ball when Gayle was caught out by Ingram. Gayle had pulled the shot towards the stands but Ingram was standing between Chris Gayle and the ropes. Ingram with his hands across the boundary ropes and body inside the boundary took hold of the ball but as soon as he thought that his balance is shaking, he threw the ball towards Axar Patel to complete a marvelous catch.

11. Amit Mishra obstructing the field runs-out

The Eliminator of the IPL 2019 between SRH and DC raised many eyebrows as Amit Mishra was found guilty of obstructing the field and was given run-out.

DC was struggling to score runs and so Mishra tried to smash the ball hard on the fourth delivery of Khaleel Ahmed’s last over but he missed the shot and he went off to take a single. The wicketkeeper, Wriddhiman Saha aimed at the stumps but he missed as Khaleel collected the ball and threw the ball at the non-striker’s end where Mishra was running. But the ball hit Mishra’s arm, in front of the stumps. The decision was not-out given by the on-field umpires but as the decision went upstairs, it was found out that Amit Mishra had obstructed the field. He was given out by the third umpire.

12. Lasith Malinga last over of IPL 2019 finals

Mumbai Indians conquered the IPL 2019 trophy, defeating Chennai Super Kings by 1 run. Lasith Malinga was the hero of the match as he defended 9 runs in the last over.

Lasith Malinga was not having the best of the match but he was given the responsibility to finish the match for MI as they had to defend 9 runs in the last over. Malinga bowled a perfect over as he bowled all the yorkers in the over, giving away only 7 runs as MI won the IPL 2019.
