Roger Federer started his year off with the 2020 Australian Open. He did very well and reached the semi-finals of the event. This was the only professional event he played before he gave some bad news to the tennis world.

Unfortunately, things did not go as planned for Federer. He did not recover as expected and he had to undergo a second knee surgery. This led him to end his 2020 season completely, leaving him unable to play at the 2020 US Open.

Every single tennis fan is going to miss Roger at the 2020 US Open and they will be looking to see him play in 2021. The good news is that the Swiss Maestro has made no indication that he is retiring. And he probably isn’t retiring for just one reason – the race to become the GOAT of tennis.

To win this race, Roger has to end up holding the record for the most Grand Slams. He is the one holding it right now but his rivals – Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic are getting very close. In fact, Rafa is just a Slam away from equaling Roger’s record.

Federer definitely wants to extend his lead over his rivals and that is why he is taking his time to recover well. Hopefully, he will win some Grand Slams in 2021 just like he did back in 2017.
