“It Was So Crazy”: Iga Swiatek on Life After Grand Slam Breakthrough at French Open 2020

Poland’s Iga Swiatek shocked the world after her sensational triumph at Roland Garros last season. The Polish player showcased a brilliant set of skills to lift her first Grand Slam title. She was noticed when she beat Romania’s Simona Halep in the fourth round, who was on a 17-match winning streak.

Winning the French Open gave Iga Swiatek a ranking of 17th in the world. During the tournament, she also competed in the doubles event, where she teamed up with Nicole Melichar. The duo lost in the semifinal, but until they reached that stage of the tournament, the pair didn’t drop a set in their journey.

Iga Swiatek: “Gained experience on the business side”

Recently, Iga reflected on life after winning her maiden Grand Slam. She said, “I gained some experience on the business side of life. It’s great because I know this is the knowledge I can use when my career in tennis is done. So it was really important for me to get that. And also I really appreciate that I could go back to normality and just practicing because it was so crazy after the French Open that I asked myself will I ever be able to rest again?”

Iga couldn’t resist getting back on the tennis courts and continue doing what she does best. She went to a small town outside Poland and continued her regime for the upcoming season.

Speaking on this, she said, “But then the pre-season came and I could just focus on myself and my tennis again. We went to a small town in Poland outside of Warsaw and I think it was the hardest seven days of practice that I ever did. It was just cool getting back to work. I really appreciated it. I know it’s not cool and it’s not a fun answer, but it’s true.”

The 19-year-old is currently in Melbourne, getting ready for the first Grand Slam of the new season. She will be considered a real contender to go deep into the Australian Open 2021.
