The new Spec4 engine that was introduced by Honda at the Belgian GP, was used only by Daniil Kvyat and Alexander Albon. However, Honda has now revealed that Max Verstappen and Pierre Gasly, will start from the back of the grid in Italy. Honda confirmed, that they are planning to run the Spec4 with all the 4 drivers and that Verstappen and Gasly, both will get a new power unit during the Monza weekend.

This will mean that both will start from the back of the grid. Despite the grid penalties, Honda believes that both Max Verstappen and Pierre Gasly will be able to put up good performances in Italy. “For their first race with Spec 4, Gasly and Verstappen will, take grid penalties and start from the back of the grid, but we believe they can still race strongly on Sunday”, said Honda’s technical director Toyoharu Tanabe.

However, Verstappen as well made comments that suggested he was not concerned about overtaking cars apart from the top 4. “I think it can be alright to overtake,” Verstappen revealed in an exclusive interview with Autosport. “We all know Ferrari is going to be really quick there, and if you start from the back you probably won’t catch the top four”, he continued. “Everything behind that I think it’s possible to catch up with.”
