Italian Open 2019 Draw: Rafael Nadal And Roger Federer In The Same Half

The Italian Open 2019 is the third and the final tournament of the three Clay Court Masters series. Fabio Fognini won the first at the Monte Carlo Open 2019 while the winner of the Mutua Madrid Open 2019 will be decided on Sunday.

Rafael Nadal is the defending champion at the Italian Open 2019. He won the title for the first time since 2013 in Rome. While Nadal is set to return in the Italian Open 2019, he would be joined by the runner up of the Italian Open 2018, World No. 1 and four-time champion Novak Djokovic, Dominic Thiem, Champion at Barcelona Open 2019 and Roger Federer, who is making a comeback at the clay court events after 3 years.

While the Italian Open 2019 is all set to begin on May 13, the draw of the tournament has been released. Let’s take a look at it –

Rafael Nadal Italian Open 2019 Draw:

The ‘King of Clay’ will aim to win his record 9th title at the Italian Open 2019. While it has been a disappointing season for Nadal till date, as the Spaniard has been title-less. But the World No. 2 can never be ignored at a clay court event.

The biggest talking point about the Italian Open 2019 will be Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer drawn in the same half. In the potential quarterfinals of the Italian Open 2019 as per the seeding, Rafael Nadal would most likely meet the Austrian Dominic Thiem.

Roger Federer Italian Open 2019 Draw:

While the participation of Swiss at the Rome Masters 2019 is doubtful, he has been drawn in the same half of the ‘king of clay’, Rafael Nadal. Federer participated at the event in 2016 where he was defeated by Dominic Thiem in the round of 16.

Every fan would be hoping to see Roger Federer playing against Rafael Nadal in the semifinals of the Italian Open 2019. If Federer continues his decision to play the Rome Masters, he is most likely to meet Stefanos Tsitsipas in the potential quarterfinals match.

Novak Djokovic Italian Open 2019 Draw:

The world no. 1 Novak Djokovic hasn’t had the best of the season since his title at the Australian Open 2019. But the Serb will remain at the top of the ATP leaderboards till the end of the clay court season irreverent of his results.

Djokovic will face the ‘Tower of Tandil’, Juan Martin Del Potro in his potential quarterfinals at the Italian Open 2019. Novak Djokovic, who would be eyeing for his fifth Italian Open title is in the same half with the 2018 Italian Open runner up, Alexander Zverev.

Alexander Zverev Italian Open 2019 Draw:

The 2018 runner up in Rome, Alexander Zverev has not won any tournament since ATP Finals 2018. It will be a tough task for the German to repeat his feat at the Rome Masters. The World No. 3 is most likely to face Kei Nishikori in the potential quarterfinals. He has been drawn in the same half with the World No. 1, Novak Djokovic.

Italian Open 2019 Draw: First Round encounters

It’s the clash of the two Frenchman Jeremy Chardy and Richard Gasquet in the opening round in Rome. Also, Jo Wilfried Tsonga will face the Italian Fabio Fognini at his home in the first round. Philip Kohlschreiber is set up against Giles Simon in the first round of the Rome Masters.
