As you can see, the Frenchman has made some pretty bold statements here mocking the organizers of the Wimbledon. This is probably because he believes that they should not have immediately canceled the tournament. It is, after all, one of the biggest events on the tennis calendar.
Gilles will definitely have a lot of fans agreeing with him, but is he right? The answer to this is complicated as you can argue both sides. The coronavirus is spreading extremely fast and it looks like there won’t be any tennis in 2020. If the organizers prepared for Wimbledon to be played but were eventually forced to cancel, they would lose a lot of money. And this is not something they want as the economic situation is already bad because of the virus.
Whichever side you take, it won’t matter as we are not going to see the 3rd Grand Slam of 2020. The only thing we can do now is hope that the virus does not spread further and that we can see the remaining tournaments of 2020.
