It seemed as though the city was heavily inspired by the movie Bladerunner: 2049, which is based on the cyberpunk genre. Floating holograms, neon lighting on skyscrapers, the complex roads, all made the futuristic city more realistic.

Level Designer Miles Tost also revealed that the city was based on the real-life geography of California. Night City was designed to be a coastal city with ports, industrial areas, densely populated living areas, and much, much more.

One of the most interesting things was that the exploration in the city was more vertical than horizontal. This made it different from The Witcher 3’s open-world where exploration was fairly straight forward. This reinforced the fact that the city’s exploration was extremely intimate.

One other thing Miles spoke about was how every single street in Night City had a name. He also mentioned how that would facilitate better communication between the player and the NPCs. The walkthrough also showed the city’s ‘darker’ parts that included hideouts, ghetto areas, nightlife, and more. Every single district had something different top offer which made the exploration exciting. Miles also explained how the developers had literally put garbage at random places in the city to make it look realistic.

All this information confirmed that Night City was indeed one of the most complex open worlds of all time.

Gangs of Night City

As the episode progressed further, fans were introduced to the Gangs of Night City. These groups of people ran the streets and crushed anyone who tried to stop them. The fans showcased were Malestrom, Valentinos, 6 Street, Voodoo Boyz, Animals, Tiger Claws, Moxes, and Valiants. Each of them came with their own different cosmetics, weapons, and vehicles, too.

Unfortunately, players were unable to join any of these gangs. But, there was a good reason behind it. The Player and V were part of the city’s group of elite mercenaries. They accepted contracts from the gangs and considering they are not loyal to anyone, they cannot be a part of any gang.

To put the cherry on top, the episode also revealed the game’s PC system requirements. Take a look at it below.
