Johanna Konta Calls Off Her 2019 Tennis Season

This year’s semifinalist at French Open, Johanna Konta has pulled out from WTA Elite Trophy contest in Zhuhai pertaining to a knee injury. Also, Britain’s Number one tennis player, Konta has called off her tennis season 2019 due to the same reason.

World Number 11, Konta’s pain in the knee has been persisting for a while and now she decides to focus on rehabilitation for the rest of the year and focus on recovering from that persisting knee injury. 

This year, the Brit, Konta last performed at the US Open 2019 and the 16th seed made a deep run in New York and reached the quarterfinals at Flushing Meadows where she fell to the Ukrainian, Elina Svitolina.

Her performance at Open was satisfactory, but Konta’s run during the North American warm-up events was poor as she was knocked out from the opening round itself.

This year, Johanna Konta had a smooth stay on the WTA Tour. Compared to her previous season in 2018, Konta seemed stable in 2019. At the beginning of the year, she was ranked 47th in the world and after her semi-final defeat at Roland-Garros 2019 to the unseeded player, Marketa Vondrousova in two tight sets, Konta entered the top-20 column in the WTA roaster.

Except, Australian Open, Konta made deep runs in Slams in 2019 and she was the finalist at Morocco Open 2019 and Italian Open 2019. In Rabat, she lost to Maria Sakkari and later in Rome, she fell to Karolina Pliskova in the finals.

Britain’s top-ranked pulled off her last title at the Miami Open in the year 2017. That Premier Mandatory title in Florida title date remains the biggest title of her career till date. The same year she entered the semifinals of Wimbledon and later she was nominated for the 2017 BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award.
