John Isner Cheerfully Withdraws From Mutua Madrid Open 2019

Before losing to Roger Federer in the Miami final, John Isner played an action-packed match against Felix Auger-Aliassime and in addition to that, the American had set up some groundbreaking records in the tournament after winning his semifinal match. 

In the final match in Miami, Isner suffered a stress fracture in his left foot and he could just win five games in the final. Due to which he was sidelined from the U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship and since then he hasn’t played any tournament on the ATP tour.

John Isner has not recovered fully to participate on the men’s tour and hence he has withdrawn from the Mutua Madrid Open 2019 which is starting next week. Before the Paris major, he plans to mark his presence in the Rome Masters in order to get accustomed with clay court tennis.

Off the court, John Isner and his wife Madison McKinley are expecting their second child and they revealed their child’s gender in an athletic manner.

The beginning of 2019 season was poignant for John Isner. He lost back to back matches to his compatriots, Taylor Fritz, and Reilly Opelka. Before that, in ATP Finals 2018, the American lost all the matches in the group stage. Which accounts for five consecutive match defeats for Isner.

He collected the first win of this season in New York against Bernard Tomic. The American skyscraper, John Isner has been there on the top-ten table since August 2018. This year he reached the semifinals at the New York and Mexican Open and finals in Florida.

World Number nine, John Isner becomes the fifth active player to step into the list of ATP men who dwelled for 500 consecutive weeks inside the top 50 rankings. Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Marin Cilic are also part of this list.
