Former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has snubbed a managerial offer worth €30m-a-year as he looks to find a new club this summer.

Chinese Super League club Guangzhou Evergrande are determined to lure the Portuguese by making him the highest paid manager in the world.

Jose Mourinho has been out of action since December after he was sacked by Manchester United following a horrific set of results at the start of last season. The 56-year old won the Europa League and League Cup in his first season at Old Trafford, but the Reds’ decline in the latter two forced his departure.

Mourinho has since been linked with a move to Serie A and a shock return to the Premier League with Newcastle United. However, the former Chelsea boss could be heading to China to join the two-time AFC Champions League winners.

Guangzhou chairman Xu Jiayin met with the manager in April, and despite Mourinho’s refusal at the offer, an agreement between the two parties is possible.

Former Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez was recently appointed as manager of Chinese side Dalian Yifang and West Ham United boss Maul Pellegrini also had a successful spell in the Asian continent. However, Jose Mourinho is destined to stay in Europe for his next project.

The two-time Champions League winner with Porto and Inter Milan is considered as one of the best managers of all time. He has lifted three Premier League titles with Chelsea and has one La Liga trophy with Real Madrid to his name.

Despite many considering him a failure at Manchester United, Jose Mourinho, with his vast managerial experience, could still prove to be a big hit at any of the top European clubs.
