“Just Run to the L” – The Story Behind Nick Foles’ Winning Drive Against the Falcons

Not many NFL critics would have predicted that Matt Nagy’s Chicago Bears would remain unbeaten in the NFL after three weeks. They finished 2019 with an 8-8 record with first-round pick Mitchell Trubisky as their starting quarterback. His inconsistent displays last season forced Nagy to bring in Super Bowl winner, Nick Foles, from the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2020 offseason.
Despite Foles’ arrival, Nagy named Trubisky as the Bears’ starting quarterback before the start of the 2020 NFL season. But after a below-par display against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, Foles was given his opportunity by Matt Nagy in the third quarter. It’s safe to say that he did not disappoint.

NFL analyst Peter Schrager appeared on Monday’s segment of Good Morning Football. While talking about the Chicago Bears vs Atlanta Falcons game, Schrager elaborated on that fourth-quarter drive orchestrated by Nick Foles, which culminated in a touchdown.
Schrager said, “I’m going to take you within the huddle here. Two-minute warning, I’ve spoken to some folks in Chicago, here’s what happens at the two-minute warning. It’s third and eight and Nick Foles looks at (wide receiver) Anthony Miller and says ‘It’s an all-out blitz, I need you to run to the L in the end zone… Just run to the L in the Atlanta Falcons end zone, just run there and I’ll find you.’”

Foles was brought into the game by coach Matt Nagy in the third quarter. He replaced Trubisky, who had thrown an interception moments earlier. The Super Bowl LII winner and MVP put in a stunning display to lead the Bears to a 26-30 win at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Sunday.
Foles completed 16 of his 29 attempted passes. He threw for 188 yards and had three passing TDs against one interception. The Bears confirmed that Foles would replace Trubisky as their starter from Week Four onwards.

The Bears remain unbeaten in the league this year. They will host the inconsistent Indianapolis Colts at home next weekend. Following that, Foles will go up against the legendary Tom Brady and his Tampa Bay Buccaneers outfit in Week Five. Time will tell whether the ‘Nick Foles fairytale’ is destined to have a happy ending this season.
