Kei Nishikori Calls Off Tennis Season 2019

World Number tennis player, Kei Nishikori has called off his tennis season 2019. The Japanese Number one tennis player underwent right elbow surgery this week. His manager, Olivier van Lindonk mentioned that Nishikori needs to undergo a “small procedure to remove two small bone spurs” in the elbow.

According to his manager, Nishikori has been struggling with the irritation in his elbow since the French Open in May. “He has tried to heal this with rest,” his manager added. “But time has proven that rest & rehab was not enough.”

Pertaining to his surgery, Kei Nishikori will be missing the indoor hard-court tournament next week in Paris. Also, he won’t be representing his nation at the Davis Cup Finals 2019 in Madrid, Spain in the month of November. Japan team will be consisting of Yoshihito Nishioka, Yasutaka Uchiyama, Taro Daniel, Ben McLachlan, and Yuichi Sugita.

Earlier this season, World Number eight, Kei Nishikori withdrew from Asian Swing pertaining to his elbow issues.

Since his third-round loss at US Open 2019 to Alex De Minaur, the Japanese has not stepped on the professional tennis courts. Also, Nishikori had to cancel the Uniqlo exhibition in Tokyo, Japan which was scheduled against Roger Federer.

However, his manager revealed that the US Open 2014 finalist, Kei Nishikori will be resuming his off-season practice and will be in form for the next Grand Slam tournament, the Australian Open 2020 which gets underway on January 20, 2020. 

A few days ago, Nishikori split with his longtime coach Dante Bottini. “After 9 years of working together literally a day in and day out, I have decided it is time for a new voice.  I am forever grateful for Dante’s contributions to my career and we will obviously remain very close friends. I appreciate so much the last 9 years and our friendship,” Kei Nishikori announced.
