Kevin Anderson Gives Novak Djokovic a Boost at The US Open 2019

Despite making a winning start of the season at Maharashtra Open 2019, it’s a been a despairing season for the World Number 17, Kevin Anderson. The South African face of tennis has withdrawn from the US Open 2019 with a right knee injury.

He was placed under the top-seed, Novak Djokovic‘s quarter and had a potential fourth-round encounter with the defending champion, but with Anderson pulling out, the Serb’s run to the quarterfinals seems undemanding since the next highest seed in his quadrant is Stan Wawrinka on the 23rd spot. 

The six-feet eight inches tall tennis player has been withdrawing from various tennis tournament throughout the year and has collectively participated in four tournaments. The two-time Grand Slam finalist has just won 11 matches this year, which includes his title victory in Pune, India.

At US Open 2019, Kevin Anderson was seeded 16th and was drawn to open against Zachary Svajda from the United States and now, his place will be given to the lucky loser and the 15th seed of the qualifying draw, Paolo Lorenzi from Italy.

Former World Number five, Kevin Anderson was given a wildcard for last week’s Winston-Salem Open 2019, but he couldn’t present himself there due to his ongoing injuries. Since Wimbledon 2019, he hasn’t played any tournaments on the ATP circuit.

The former US Open finalist, Anderson reached his first-ever Grand Slam final in 2017 at Flushing Meadows. Back then, he lost to the 18-time Grand Slam champion, Rafael Nadal in the championship match.

At US Open 2018, the skyscraper of tennis, Anderson fell to Dominic Thiem in the pre-quarterfinals in straight sets and he played five-set matches against Denis Shapovalov and Ryan Harrison in the previous rounds.

Kevin Anderson and Lloyd Harris were two singles tennis players from South Africa in the US Open 2019 main draw, with Anderson’s stepping down Harris becomes the sole flag-bearer of their nation at the American Slam.
