Kimi Raikkonen has a Hilarious Explanation for Gesture Towards Hamilton

The incident involving Alfa Romeo driver Kimi Raikkonen and Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton, had many talking. In the end, Lewis Hamilton copped a 3-place grid penalty, but will move up a spot after Kevin Magnussen’s gearbox penalty.

Afterwards, Raikkonen was questioned about the incident, specifically his offensive gesture. The Finnish veteran stuck out his middle finger in the direction of the 5-time World champion. Kimi Raikkonen explained that he was simply pointing towards a couple of planes in the sky. The incident took place during the Q1 session when Hamilton failed to see Kimi Raikkonen approaching.

In the end, Kimi Raikkonen finished the Austrian Grand Prix qualifying session in 7th, but will be starting 6th. Hamilton, on the other hand, will he starting outside the top 3 for the first time this season.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Kimi Raikkonen admitted that Hamilton was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. However, the Finnish veteran does not hold the incident against Hamilton and insisted that the rules are the rules.

Alfa Romeo have come away from Saturday’s qualifying session in high spirits as both their drivers are in the top 10. Kimi’s teammate, Antonio Giovinazzi will start in 7th behind the 39-year old.
