Kristina Mladenovic and Timea Babos have won the Women’s doubles Australian Open 2020. The French and Hungarian pair lifted the title by obliterating the top seeded pairing of Hsieh Su-Wei and Barbora Strycova. The match was pretty straightforward, and ended 6-2, 6-1, lasting for 1 hour and 12 minutes. The two made the finals last year as well but had to settle for second place after falling to Sam Stosur and Zhang Shuai.

Kristina Mladenovic and Timea Babos Express Delight

This is the second time Mladenovic and Babos have won the Australian Open doubles title, having also won it in 2018. They defeated Ekaterina makarova and Elena Vesnina for the 2018 title.

The doubles title marks the pair’s third Grand Slam title and the 10th title overall. The two are also the French Open reigning doubles champions. They beat Chinese pair Zheng Saisai and Duan Yingjing in Paris.

Kristina’s tally of doubles Grand Slam titles goes up to four now, one more than her current partner Timea. She also won the 2016 Roland Garros title with then partner Caroline Garcia.

Naturally, the doubles partners were ecstatic with their victory.

“There’s just something about Australia, we love coming back”, said Babos. “Our performance becomes better and better each time.”

An emotional Kristina Mladenovic was full of praise for her partner.

“Now I would like to thank the most important person on the court right now standing next to me. Timea, my doubles partner, but she is way more than that. We are playing through many things, on and off, the court. And without her, I probably wouldn’t be standing here today. Thank you for playing and being the best partner for me. I am lucky to have you.”

Timea and Kristina have played a wonderful Australian Open. The pair did not drop a single set all throughout the tournament, having faced some good opponents. The two are in some really good form, not just in recent times but for a few years now. They also won the WTA Finals doubles title in November, beating the same opponent as this years Australian Open- Hsieh and Strycova.

The duo will ow look to defend their title at Roland Garros, but there is still a lot of tennis to play before that.
