Laver Cup 2019 Announces Two New Additions in Team World

As the Grand Slam events of the year curtain down, the elite men of ATP will be featuring at Laver Cup 2019 which will take place in Geneva, Switzerland. With Kevin Anderson calling off his tennis season 2019, the World Number 208, Jack Sock becomes his replacement in the Team World. Also, his compatriot, Taylor Fritz gets onboard with him for Laver Cup 2019.

Apart from them, John McEnroe’s team comprises of John Isner, Milos Raonic, Nick Kyrgios and Denis Shapovalov.

The Japanese tennis player, Kei Nishikori and Felix Auger-Aliassime were the initial choices for Team World, but they refused to take part in the Laver Cup 2019.

Roger Federer, Rafael NadalDominic ThiemAlexander ZverevStefanos Tsitsipasand Fabio Fognini will be playing for Team Europe. Tsitsipas and Fognini will be making their debut at Laver Cup. Once again, the greatest rivalries of tennis, Federer and Nadal will be playing from the same side of the tennis court. All of the European men will be captained by the Swede, Bjorn Borg

A few months ago, the Laver Cup amalgamated with ATP Tour, and retroactively the head-to-head statistics amongst the ATP men were updated in the ATP records. However, no ATP Ranking points will be awarded to the players.

The Laver Cup has access to ATP services, like marketing and social media, as well as other operational services. The format of Laver Cup, where the European men take on rest of the world, was influenced by the Ryder Cup event of golf.

The event is backed by Roger Federer’s management company, TEAM8 and Laver Cup can be termed as a Roger Federer’s event. Initially, the World Number three, Federer was instrumental in the creating the Ryder Cup concept in tennis and also worked towards its development.

This year, the three-day exhibition event of tennis will be taking place in Federer’s home country, Switzerland and will be getting underway on September 20, 2019.
