Earlier on Instagram, the Mercedes F1 team posted an image of Lewis Hamilton talking to pole-sitter Charles LeClerc. In the caption, they congratulated the young Monegasque driver for a job well done. The Ferrari man snatched pole position ahead of teammate Sebastian Vettel and the two Mercedes cars.

Being good sports and genuinely happy for the 21-year old, Mercedes sent in their congratulations. Hamilton jokingly chipped in, chiding them for ‘fraternizing’ with the enemy.

Joking aside, it was an incredible feat achieved by the young Ferrari driver. In the process, he was also the 99th pole-sitter in the 999th Formula One race.

So, for tonight’s race, it will be a Ferrari front row lockout followed by the two Silver Arrows. Max Verstappen lines up 5th next to Kevin Magnussen. He is followed by Carlos Sainz, Kimi Raikkonen, Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo. Romain Grosjean copped a penalty for impeding Norris in Q1 and drops to 11th.
