Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton narrowly beat Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen to seal his 4th consecutive pole position. Incidentally, Hamilton finished the session 0.044 seconds ahead of Vettel, the same as Lewis’ racing number.

Prior to qualifying, Brendon Hartley was forced to sit out after a big off in Practice 3 due to a suspension failure. This led to a lot of chewed nails when remaining Toro Rosso, Pierre Gasly, reported a vibration. Fortunately, the car survived the ordeal and he managed to get into Q2 at least.

Meanwhile, Williams had a nightmarish session as both drivers spun off on separate occasions. Senior driver Lance Stroll ended up in the kitty litter for good. Meanwhile Sergey Sirotkin managed to rally drive his way back to the pits.

Joining Hartley and the 2 Williams were Stoffel Vandoorne (again) and a gutted Carlos Sainz. Q2 was a bit calmer with no real shenanigans with Nico Hulkenberg the lead driver to be eliminated. Joining him were Sergio Perez, Fernando Alonso, Pierre Gasly and Marcus Ericsson.

In the final session of qualifying, Hamilton took top honours ahead of Vettel and Raikkonen respectively. Bottas in the other Mercedes finished ahead of the two Red Bulls of Verstappen and Ricciardo. Behind them, on another stellar performance were the Haas duo of Magnussen and Grosjean followed by Charles LeClerc and Esteban Ocon.

Here is how Twitter reacted to the qualifying session and Lewis Hamilton grabbing his 4th consecutive pole position.
