Another dark and surreal adventure from Dontnod

Twin Mirror follows the story of Sam, an investigative journalist, who returns to his hometown of Basswood in West Virginia. The trailer does not explain much other than the fact that Basswood is known to be peaceful, and that it is here that all hell breaks loose in Sam’s life.

The environment during the gameplay will be interactive and is said to have multiple endings. The state of investigation guides the endings. The playable character Sam has a “mind palace” in this game, and players have to navigate between the real world and Sam’s mind palace in search of clues. In addition to this, we have Sam’s inner voice or a voice in his head. This voice will at times either aid or harm the investigation.

Unlike the previous titles of Dontnod, Twin Mirror will not feature any supernatural elements whatsoever. This means that the game will be entirely based on the concept of concrete reality blending into psychological reality. Pierre-Etienne Travers, the art director for Twin Mirror, the game will be based on the concept of mind-body dualism.

Big shoes to fill

As said earlier, Twin Mirror will have to live up to a lot of expectations. The game has already generated a hype with its official trailer release. The trailer looks promising, and this game will be another surreal psychological experience from Dontnod. The game had set a bar for itself already when it won the Jeuxvideo.coms Best of Gamescom Awards in 2018.
