“Lot of People Sacrificed”: Mardy Fish Gives Honest Confession on American Team

Former American tennis player Mardy Fish is quite a prominent figure as a tennis analyst these days. However, he is also the US Davis Cup team captain, a role he took up in 2019.

Sadly, the US team got eliminated from the Davis Cup 2021 as they suffered a defeat to Italy and Columbia. On being eliminated from the competition, captain Mardy Fish spoke on the outcome but was proud of his players for their commitment towards the event after a long strenuous season.

The 39- year-old player spoke on this topic and stated, “A lot of ppl sacrificed a lot to come over here with Team USA & the USTA. Thanksgivings are valuable at home for me personally & I know John has 3 kids now. A lot of us sacrificed a lot of stuff being in this great competition. Certainly hurts to not come out with a win.”

Fish mentioned his respect for the players who sacrificed attending Thanksgiving, which is a family event. John Isner, who is a father of three children, skipped the occasion in order to represent his nation at the Davis Cup 2021.

Speaking of the tournament, the Italian team beat team USA by 2 games to one win. Jack Sock and Rajeev Ram gave the US team a lead. However, Lorenzo Sonego beat Reilly Opelka in straight sets. Soon after, Jannik Sinner demolished John Isner and handed him only two games during the entire match.

The American team lost by 1-2 to the Columbian team. Sadly, the doubles pair from the American side had to withdraw from the event due to injury.

As tennis has summed up for the American players this season, we wish all players the very best in their preparations for the next season. It will be interesting to see how they perform in 2022.
