The 2015 French Open finalist, Lucie Safarova will be putting an end to her professional tennis career on the WTA circuit in her home country of the Czech Republic. The health issues have coerced the Czech star’s departure from tennis and the depriving physical conditions were resulting in the deterioration of her position on the WTA scale. The former World Number five, Lucie Safarova turned professional in the year 2002 and she will culminate her journey in tennis in the presence of her countrymen during the J&T Banka Prague Open in the month of April.
Earlier, towards the end of the 2018 season, Lucie Safarova announced about her retirement from her illustrious singles and doubles career at the Australian Open 2019. She also requested for a wildcard since she was not eligible for the main draw. However, she withdrew from the Melbourne major due to wrist tendinitis. The present World Number 69, Lucie Safarova has bagged 7 WTA singles titles and 15 doubles titles in her 16-year-old career.

Before the Czech ace stepped on the Philippe Cartier Court for her premier major final in 2015 where she lost to Serena Williams in three sets, Safarova had breezed into the last four round of the Wimbledon 2014. Her 2015 eminence also incorporated a title in Doha and pre-quarters run at the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore for the first time in her career. Lucie Safarova reached her first major quarterfinals in the year 2007 and en route to the quarters she dethroned the reigning champion, Amelie Mauresmo.

Besides her distinction on the singles arena, her doubles career is also revered. Lucie Safarova and her good friend, Bethanie Mattek-Sands team dwelled on the apex position of doubles tennis. They together attained five Grand Slam titles, viz., 2015 Australian Open, 2015 Roland Garros, 2016 US Open, 2017 Australian Open, and 2016 Roland Garros. Also, the high topspin forehand hitter, Lucie Safarova went on to collect the Olympic bronze at the Rio games along with her partner Barbora Strycova.
