Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic invited wrath from officials after breaking the obligatory quarantine. The Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic did not name Jovic. But, she was critical of a footballer who earned in millions and set a negative example. Serbian interior minister Nebojsa Stefanovic hinted that fame will not prevent punishment from being imposed. Stefanovic said, “Either they will respect the law, or they’ll go to jail.”

Coronavirus pandemic has affected sports all over the world. Over 2 million people have been infected worldwide. There have been 10,000 deaths. To combat the virus Serbia had told all those returning from infected states to self isolate for 4 weeks.

Jovic broke self-quarantine restrictions

The 22-year-old Real Madrid striker claimed that his club permitted him to return home. This was after the La Liga season was suspended. The club entered quarantine after it emerged that a basketball player with whom the club shared a training complex had tested positive for Coronavirus. Luka Jovic was pictured on the streets of the Serbian capital. He was also spotted at his girlfriend Sofija Milosevic’s birthday party.

Jovic apologies on social media

The Real Madrid striker took to social media to apologize after breaking curfew. Jovic apologized for being the main topic of a conversation causing people to write about him and not the doctors and healthcare workers. He said they are the main protagonists in the battle against Covid-19. Jovic added that he tested negative twice and is not affected by the Coronavirus. First in Madrid following which he was allowed to return home, and later in Serbia where he was tested upon arrival. Jovic aimed to shift the blame to unnamed individuals who didn’t provide him with specific instructions regarding his isolation.

Jovic who maintains that he wasn’t aware of the do’s and dont’s of quarantine in Serbia. Hence, it remains unclear if charges will be pressed against him. But, if the interior minister’s words are an indicator, Jovic has landed himself in hot soup.
