Manchester United and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer are planning a huge summer rebuild at Old Trafford after their substandard domestic campaign saw them finish a lowly sixth in the Premier League. Here, we discuss the latest transfer updates surrounding the Premier League giants’ major summer targets.

Crystal Palace demand £60m for Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Manchester United placed a £40m bid for Crystal Palace right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka last week. The bid was rejected by the Eagles as they value the 21-year old Englishman at around £60m.

United are in the hunt for a right-back after the departure of veteran defender Antonio Valencia at the end of the season. Ashley Young played on the right flank for the Reds for most of the season, however, the 33-year old no longer has the legs to play every game.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka made his debut for Palace only 18 months ago and has quickly become one of the Premier League’s best young players. A stellar 2018/19 season at Selhurst Park has seen the likes of Manchester City and Manchester United desperate for Wan-Bissaka’s signature.

However, it seems as if the Reds will meet the South Londoners’ £60m evaluation for the defender as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has reportedly told the club that his price will only increase in the coming months.

Paris Saint-Germain’s Thomas Meunier and Tottenham Hotspur’s Kieron Trippier are alternative options if Manchester United fail to land Wan-Bissaka.

Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak is interested in a move to Old Trafford as David de Gea’s replacement, according to ESPN. The 26-year old is reportedly “concerned” about his club’s competitiveness, with star-man Antoine Griezmann already leaving this summer along with Lucas Hernandez, Diego Godin, Juanfran and Filipe Luis.

Oblak has kept 27 clean sheets and conceded only 36 goals in 50 matches last year, more than any other keeper in Europe’s top five leagues. But Manchester United will have to trigger the Slovenian’s €120 million buyout clause if David de Gea leaves.

The Spanish goalkeeper had a miserable end to his season with his future in considerable doubt. De Gea could replace Italian legend Gianluigi Buffon who recently announced his departure from Paris Saint-Germain.

Jan Oblak is a boyhood Manchester United fan and is ready to sacrifice Champions League football to play in the Premier League.

Manchester clubs in fierce battle over Harry Maguire

Manchester City and Manchester United are both fighting to land Leicester City centre-back Harry Maguire in this summer’s transfer window. The local rivals reportedly waited for England’s Nations League campaign to culminate and will now kickstart their attempts to sign the 26-year old.

Former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho was furious with CEO Ed Woodward and his board last season after they refused to meet Leicester’s £70m-valuation of Maguire. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Pep Guardiola are huge admirers of the defender and are pushing their respective clubs to sign him.

However, the pair will be reluctant to meet Maguire’s increased £80 million price-tag which would make him the world’s most expensive defender beating Virgil van Dijk’s record £75m transfer to Liverpool.

Manchester United were unable to tempt 19-year old Matthijs de Ligt to Old Trafford as the Ajax centre-back is keen for a move to Barcelona. Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly is another name on their defender shortlist as the potential centre-back partner for Victor Lindelof.
