Manuel Pellegrini has been sacked. Pellegrini has been on the brink for a while now. It was about who gives the final push, and Leicester City it was. Brandon Rodgers’s men beat West Ham United 2-1 at the London Stadium giving the Hammers their fourth consecutive home loss. And left them just a point above the relegation zone, disastrous for a club with top-six ambitions.

The Sack was coming

“It is with great disappointment that we’ve had to make this decision. Manuel is a gentleman and it has been a real pleasure to work with someone of his calibre,” David Sullivan, West Ham Co-chairman, said.

“We felt it was necessary to act now in order to give the new manager as much time as possible to try and achieve that goal.”

While the 2-1 scoreline might fail to showcase the dominance of the foxes in the match. Though anyone who saw the match would know how badly did Manuel Pellegrini‘s men play. Though instead of improving, West Ham have already lost 10 of their last 19 matches. While they touched new lows when they lost a League Cup tie against the third-tier Oxford United by 4-0.

Pellegrini time at West Ham failed to live upto expectations

Expectations were high from the 66-year-old who was appointed to turn the team from a mid-table side to a side which challenges for European spots. The Chilean manager has Manchester City and Real Madrid on his CV. Which made his appointment seem really attractive to the West Ham faithfuls. Though as they say, all that glitters isn’t gold. And surely Pellegrini’s time at West Ham didn’t turn out to be a golden period. As the Hammers lost 29 of their 64 matches under him.

David Moyes, who was allowed to leave to be replaced by Pellegrini, looks like the current favourite job. While Rafa Benitez, who is getting linked with almost every English mid-table vacancy, and Bournemouth’s Eddie Howe have all been linked with the job. Though a surprise inclusion in the list is former Bayern Munich boss, Niko Kovac.
