“Many Guys Doing Better Than Me” – Andrey Rublev Reflects on Sheer Competition at ATP Finals 2020

Andrey Rublev is one of the most exciting prospects in the men’s game today. The fact that he first picked up a tennis racket at the age of 3 indicates that tennis has been inculcated in him since childhood.
Rublev has had some great wins early on in his career. The young Russian has enjoyed wins over this year’s US Open champion Dominic Thiem, the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, and the outspoken Nick Kyrgios over the last year. He even stunned Federer, in what resulted in the Swiss’ fastest loss in more than a decade.
For the first time in his career, Rublev has made it for the final showdown at the ATP World Tour Finals in London. Reflecting on his qualification, the man in form said,

“So the main goal for me is really to try to see if I can keep this level if I can keep improving if I can be here for a while and if I can compete against top players, (if I can) compete against top 20 players because there are so many things that I need to improve.”
There have been players in the past who have had an amazing season and then failed to do the same in the following year.
Taking nothing for granted, he further added, “And there are many guys who are doing some things much better than me. And these things I need to change and to improve them to be able to be here at this spot for a while at least.”

2020: Andrey Rublev Shifts Gears
In the year 2020, a number of events have been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Andrey has managed to win 5 ATP titles under these circumstances.

Before the season was halted, the aggressive baseliner won titles at Doha and Adelaide in consecutive weeks. The Russian managed to make it to the quarterfinals of both the US Open and French Open this season for the first time.
