Real Madrid and Brazil full-back Marcelo has declared that his compatriot Neymar will definitely play for Real Madrid one day. The 30-year-old also declared that it would happen irrespective of whether superstar Cristiano Ronaldo stays or leaves the club.

Speaking to the press in a pre-World Cup press conference, the former Fluminense defender said,” Look, Cristiano does not own Real Madrid. If the president chooses, anyone can be there. There’s no such thing as Neymar not being there because Cristiano is there. I am very hopeful that Cristiano Ronaldo stays at Real Madrid, all the players want him to stay, but one thing is not related to the other. Neymar will always have open doors at Real Madrid”.

However, both Neymar and Ronaldo have been subjected to many speculations over the last 2 weeks or so. After winning the Champions League for the 4th time in 5 years in Kyiv, the Portuguese forward made the headlines by stating,” Now is the time to enjoy this. In the coming days, you will have my answer to the fans, the ones who have really been on my side. It has been very nice being at Real Madrid.”

In the following weeks, various Spanish sources have claimed that the former Manchester United man has been leveraging the historic Champions League triumph by demanding a wage packet that is significantly higher than that of his Barcelona counterpart Lionel Messi. It has also been revealed that the Madrid dressing room has now turned against Ronaldo following his antics right after the win over Liverpool.

Neymar, on the other hand, has spent the final months of the season recovering from a metatarsal injury that he suffered in February. The former Santos man, who was bought by Paris St. Germain for an eye-watering 197 million pounds last summer, has found himself embroiled in multiple controversies throughout the season. He got into a fight with PSG’s all-time top scorer Edinson Cavani over penalty-taking duties and has been linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu for years now.

Speaking about him right after his arrival, new manager Tomas Tuchel said,” It was an important meeting. He’s an artist, one of the best players in the world, a key player to help us win our matches. If we find a way to build a structure around him, so he can show all his talent on the pitch, I think we have a key player to win our games.”

It remains to be seen how each of these players fare at the World Cup and how that affects their priorities and market values. Keep watching this space for more.
