Maria Sharapova Says Playing on The Canadian Courts Deteriorated Her Shoulder Injury

The Russian tennis star, Maria Sharapova disclosed her shoulder injury issue to the reporters in Linz. She mentioned that by playing a tough match at the Rogers Cup 2019 against the Estonian, Anett Kontaveit aggravated her shoulder conditions.

“For a few months this year the shoulder felt quite good, during the lead-up on the grass. But I played a hard match on cement in Canada and that hurt me for the next few weeks,” Maria Sharapova said.

She lost her opening round match in Canada, later she won a match in Cincinnati and flew to New York for the US Open 2019. At Flushing Meadows, she was again the first-round casualty after losing to Serena Williams.

After skipping Linz Open 2019 due to shoulder injury the Russian tennis ace will be making an appearance in Luxembourg. Probably, it will be her last tournament of the 2019 season. She is aiming to do well in the year 2020.

Despite her injury woes which she had this season, World Number 137, Maria Sharapova optimistic about getting back to business and motivated to return to her former niche.

“I’m back on track now. I’m doing all the right things, but I might need a little more time. I might play next week. I’ll test the shoulder with a couple of practice sets. I’m not in a rush. The main goal is to get healthy, put in the work and play a good schedule in 2020. I want to work my way into 2020 and be healthy,” said Sharapova.

The shoulder has been a weak link in the body for many years. This year it got pretty bad. I didn’t play for most of the season. But those are the ups and downs an athlete goes through. I have the motivation to get better. I know there are no limits to what you can achieve,” she added.
