Maria Sharapova Wants To Win Another Grand Slam At 33 – Says Coach Riccardo Piatti

Veteran coach Riccardo Piatti believes that his young pupil and rising star, Jannik Sinner,  can learn a lot from the example of one of his most prolific students- Maria Sharapova. He claimed that the Russian sensation has her eyes set on a sixth grand slam title, desoite tge injury setbacks.

Piatti made these comments in an interview with Corrire DellaSera.

Piatti spoke in length about the current status of Jannik Sinner and the goals he has set for the rising Italian star.

He also named some great players who should work as examples for Sinner. Apart from asking Sinner to watch videos of an 18-year-old Federer, Piatti recommends Sinner to learn from another one of his great pupils. None other than the Russian sensation Maria Sharapova.

“Maria asked me to help her win another slam at 33 years old with a serious shoulder problem. She is the greatest worker I have ever coached, men included. Even tired, she knows how to play quality. And it has a lot in common with Jannik: both are very competitive, very demanding, with tennis as the top priority.”

What Is The Future For Sharapova and Jannik Sinner?

Maria Sharapova is set to take part in the Brisbane Open. Post that, the Russian sensation will make her return to the big stage at the Australian Open. It remains to be seen whether Sharapova can live up to all the hype that’s been created around her return.

Talking about Jannik Sinner, his rise up the ranks has truly been meteoric. At the nascent age of 18, the Italian has risen from world number 550 to number 78. Due to his association with Piatti, he has had the opportunity to hit the court with some of the best in the business. His sparring partners include Stan Wawrinka, David Goffin and Grigor Dimitrov.

While Sharapova is also looking for a kickstart, albeit a different one. piatti will be hoping that he can help both of them achieve their 2020 goals.
