Jose Mourinho, hinted the return of Belgian midfielder Marouane Fellaini, to the squad ahead of the Liverpool clash. Fellaini, was removed after six minutes of being subbed in, during the loss against Spurs back on January 31st. It was later revealed that Fellaini’s knee injury had flared up again. However, Jose hinted that he could feature against premier league giants Liverpool on Saturday.
“The only one that is back to the team is Fellaini”, said Jose Mourinho when asked about the injured players. Anthony Martial, is set to miss the big clash due to a thigh injury.
“It’s basically the same [squad],” Mourinho said. “The people injured are recovering step by step and a few of them are very, very close to a return – but not yet. We are fine, we have a squad ready for everything. The number we choose – 23 – was to protect them and we are coping with that.”
Fellaini could boost and strengthen the already buffed up midfield area for united. Fellaini created problems for Liverpool the last time they met in the premier league, controlling the midfield with his size, and also posing an aerial threat to direct balls launched up into the opponent’s half .
Manchester United, will face off against Liverpool for the 200th time, as the race to finish second in the premier league intensifies. However, he historical significance of the occasion does not bother Jose Mourinho. “For me it is just a big match, two historical clubs, not just in England, but in the world. In this moment, [there are] important points for the top four, important points for second position, which is better than third or fourth place. I still don’t look to some matches as special opponents. It’s just a big match, because we are speaking about two big clubs,” said Mourinho.
