Mercedes F1 Could be Bought Over by Toto Wolff and Lawrence Stroll in 2021, Claims Reports

In a spot of bizarre news, rumour say that billionaire Lawrence Stroll and team boss Toto Wolff plan to take over the Mercedes operation from 2021. Veteran German correspondent Ralf Bach, was the one who broke the news, which comes on the back of Stroll’s attempts at buying out Aston Martin.
According to an F1-Insider report, Wolff negotiated a deal to replace Chase Carey at Liberty Media as the CEO. However, Scuderia Ferrari were not too thrilled with that plan. Instead, they wanted Wolff to spend at least three years away from F1 before taking over the reins.
Though, once that rumour was shot down, he chose to team up with Racing Point owner Stroll. Together, the two of them aim to take over the Brackley based team that has won every world championship since 2014.

This will be Stroll Sr’s second business venture, that centers around Formula One. As mentioned before, he has been linked with a takeover of the British carmaker Aston Martin. It is believed that the deal is reportedly worth $260 million.

If that does come to pass, then Aston Martin could enter Formula One as Racing Point’s new identity in 2021. However, Bach claims that Aston Martin will return, but at the cost of Mercedes AMG F1.
“Toto wants to be prepared if Mercedes gets out (of F1) and remains in the top flight only as an engine manufacturer,” former F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone mused.

It was observed that the German giant have yet to sign the new Concorde Agreement for 2021 onwards. Bach wondered if the team should continue investing in the sport when they have already proven near-unbeatable.
In addition to that, Mercedes also has a finger stuck in another pie, called Formula E. Speaking of FE, this is the first time, Mercedes, BMW, Audi and Porsche have been racing each other competitively.
