“Jordan Status Type”: Nick Kyrgios Picks Roger Federer Over Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic in the GOAT Debate

While speaking on the GOAT debate in an Instagram video, Nick Kyrgios said, ” [ Roger Federer ] is almost like a Jordan status type.” Kyrgios has made himself unavailable for any tennis tournaments in the wake of the pandemic. He made it clear that he wouldn’t be competing overseas for the rest of 2020.

The Australian also went on to say that he wasn’t surprised with Rafael Nadal‘s performance at the French Open 2020. He stated that he knew something like that would happen since it was Nadal’s “backyard.”

While justifying his view about Roger Federer being the greatest, Nick said, “You look at Federer, he is the most dominant player of all timeHe is almost like a Jordan status type, the main guy. He is so dominant on every kind of surface and I think the way he plays the game is something special.

Federer last played in January in the Australian Open 2020, where he lost to Novak Djokovic in the semi-final 6-7(7-1) 4-6 3-6.

Roger Federer and Nick Kyrgios have gone head-to-head eight times in total. The results stand as 6-1 in the Swiss player’s favor. The sole win for Kyrgios was during the Madrid Masters in the Round of 32. The scoreline read 6-7(2) 7-6(5) 7-6(12).

The other one was a walkover during the Indian Wells Masters Quarter-Final match in 2017. Federer proceeded to the Semis after Kyrgios did not play due to suspected food poisoning.

While there have been enough talks on the GOAT debate, it is always nice to hear from the current crop of players. Federer’s elegance and domination on every surface was what made Kyrgios call him the greatest.
