One’s weakness is a strength for the others. This sums up the current scenario between the LA Angels, Anaheim city, and Long Beach city. Recently, the Anaheim City Council sealed a new stadium deal with the LA Angels, only to be collapsed within 24 hours because of an alleged scandal.

However, the Long Beach city council has come as a helping hand to the LA Angels. Long Beach has offered the LA Angels to re-start the negotiations for a new stadium in the city.

Notably, the LA Angels’ current lease in Anaheim will expire in 2029, with an option to extend until 2038. The current site in Anaheim is around 150 acres, but given the recent alleged scandal by Anaheim Mayor, the deal is in real danger.

Will the LA Angels accept the proposal of Long Beach?

Not to forget that the Angels and Long Beach had negotiations over a waterfront stadium and entertainment complex on a 55-acre site in 2019. But because of some disagreements, the Angels and Long Beach did not agree on the deal.

And now when the Angels Per Yahoo.com, the Angels owner Arte Moreno had a deal to purchase their current stadium for a whopping price of $320 million. But the recent reports suggest the deal has collapsed.

Taking this as an opportunity, Long Beach city issued a statement and invited the Angels to continue the three years old negotiations. 

“In February 2019, Long Beach began preliminary discussions on the potential for a waterfront stadium in Long Beach…,” the statement said. “If the Angels are interested in continuing those initial discussions, Long Beach would reengage in those discussions and seek direction from the City Council.”

Given the scenario, Long Beach could be an option for the LA Angels. But it depends on the Angels’ organization. Whether they want to negotiate with Long Beach for a new stadium or not.

After a blazing start to the 2022 season, the Angels have slowed down lately. With 27 wins out of 45 games, the Joe Maddon-led team is second in the American League West. Currently, they are two wins behind the division leader, the Houston Astros.
